East Bijou Creek is about 50 miles from Denver down Interstate 70! It is West of Deer Trail Colorado and East of Peoria Colorado! About half way between the two towns! The area is heavy in convention agriculture! The place I took water from was grazed by cattle Pic! What interested me from seeing the site while driving down Interstate 70 was the think duck week covering and swampy look! When I got down to the creek on July 26 2004, I found it to be a series of pools of duck week covered water! Cattle had been in the water however there was no sign of surface flow of water! Just the series of ponds in depressions! !

I mean let us face it, I loved this site! Thick duckweed covered surface water under lied a thick smelly layer if mud that could be covered with quite a bit of depth of water or be very shallow! It seemed an ideal place to find Protozoa! As to the Oxygen level, the pond water kit did not measure any measurable level of O2 in the pond! The PH was between 7.5 and 8.0! The Nitrate level was not measurable even though the department of agriculture spoke of Nitrate levels in Middle Bijou creek just west of East Bijou creek! The ammonia level was 0.5 PPM! The salt level was 0.06 percent! I would image this could be from a salt lick kicked in the water or due to run off from the heavy agricultural use in the area!

I mean to me this was great swamp water! The best is where there is a constant flow of water though the wet land! These had a deceptive white sandy bottom which revealed a deep smelly layer of mud underneath! Once you let the area, the water would clear fast giving the deceptive whit sandy bottom! This area reminded me of the depression in Vietnam near LZ Mary ANN! There was an area I called the depression Southwest of LZ Mary Ann! It was a low area of very smelly water! The VC, North Vietnamese, the leeches and even the mosquitoes seem to avoid the area! Why we went there is unknown to me! But if you went there, you best bring your own water! I mean this is water where you could put enough halizone tablets in to cause diarrhea on its own plus mental stupor! But you would still get the two step runs! You best be twp steps from dropping you pants and letting loose or you would soil yourself! Then can in use the diarrhea medicine, which as a medic I dispensed! I was given two diarrhea medicines! One for general use and the other they told me to use in special cases for the elite! Such as the machine gun crews, the officers, the point men and the medics of course! And they did not dispense much of the medicine out! So, unlike my usual case, I followed the elite dispension methods - including the medic of course! But the East Bijou creek water, I got home and washed my hands very good three times and then picked raspberries for my breakfast and got sick! It was very nostalgic!

East Bijou creek runs between these two towns - Peoria and Deer Trail! It apparently runs into the town of Deer Trail itself!!!!
